When a friend of Emily’s lost her grandfather, Emily sent her a message. She didn't just send any message; she sent a poem and the kind of thoughtful note she was known for. Her words brought comfort during a painful time to her friend.
Now her words are comforting all of us. Even though she’s no longer here, Emily still finds a way to reach us. Through this poem, she reminds us that grief doesn't follow a clear path, and healing takes time. But slowly, gently, we can begin to move forward. As she wrote, "We can't rush it or escape it, but we can embrace it and reshape it." Her voice continues to guide us through the heartbreak and toward hope.
She signed the message the way she often did: Hugs, Emily ❤️ And even now, it still feels like she’s wrapping us in one.
Grief
when the ones we love die
we’re left wishing they were still alive
we’re left drained from all the emotions
we’re left hurting, trying to survive
are they looking down on us
from way up high in the sky
will we ever be at peace
can we truly say goodbye
to souls who touched our hearts
to hearts that helped us fly
to spirits that made us soar
to the endless tears we cry
grief flows as deep as a river, echos loud like thunder,
unrelenting and its steady like the beating of our hearts
it downpours and it drizzles, it peaks and then it fizzles
and on a seemingly sunny day, clouds form and it restarts
its there inside us like a beacon
keeping us from speakin
and achievin the peace we’re seekin
it tears us apart, you feel
the cold blows in, we’re frozen,
stuck like we are posin, the sorrow is bulldozin
we’re in too much pain to deal
when we lose someone we treasure
it hurts beyond measure
its hard to move on
because someone we love is gone, it’s real
we can’t rush it or escape it
but we can embrace it and reshape it,
til we find the new normal…
it is then we can start to heal
